I am now on day seven of Veganuary. It’s been great! I’ve been cooking more, experimenting with food, trying new things including vegan substitutes like vegan cheese and tofu. The food I’m eating now tastes great, it fills me for longer and I’m snacking an awful lot less.
That’s probably the biggest change actually, the lack of snacking. I naturally have a major vice for chocolate. If I was studying in the library I would buy a packet of Maryland cookies on the way and then eat the whole thing, while I was studying and working. Then if that filled me I might skip dinner. Not exactly the healthiest way to get through a hectic college life!
Now that Veganuary is here I’m just by-passing all the chocolate altogether and I thought I would miss is more than I did. It doesn’t bother me at all to not eat it. It makes me feel like crap anyway. Over the Christmas break when I went home I was of course surrounded by chocolate. It was everywhere. It was in everything. Pretty sure I ate my weight in chocolate. Twice. In a week.
Now, while I felt great and energised and like I could do anything for the past six days, the detox has finally hit me. I heard about it and I’d read about it but I almost feel like I have the flu. They say it gets worse before it gets better and right now I just can’t wait to get over this hump.
The animal products – dairy, eggs, honey etc – are working the last of themselves out of my body and I just feel yucky. That’s not going to stop me though. I may have slept in a bit – and I may be typing this from my bed – but I’m still going to get up and workout and go grocery shopping and buy those resistance bands I saw yesterday to make my workouts more intense and worthwhile.
I may feel like hiding under the duvet and not emerging for the whole day but life goes on! 😀 Is anyone else out there trying Veganuary? Or have you gone through this detox before? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments below! 🙂
